This whole.....Punk for Pink thing, it's alittle upsetting, I'm all for helping fight bad things like cancer, but inviteing a metal band to a show then turning it into a "punk rally, Punk 4 pink" first off, how is an extream metal band going to sell tickets to something called that. The fact that it's a "punk rally" it's like inviting a techno DJ to a metal show... I do know there are bands with "metal" influences already on the bill, but I mean....seriously we've been advertiseing it as something totally different for half a month and lost 70% of our ticket sales due to the "punk" aspect since Punk and Metal tend to not go hand and hand very well. I want to state some things they have on there profile about themselves first.
"Punks For Pink was created to facilitate an avenue of fundraising from, and awareness to, an otherwise unheard of and disenfranchised market segment referred to as "PUNKS". "PUNKS" are the youth within our communities that don't subscribe to more contemporary popular markets, the "underground" of popular culture or the "anti-thesis" of pop culture. " now you see punk mean this "a style or movement characterized by the adoption of aggressively unconventional and often bizarre or shocking clothing, hairstyles, makeup, etc., and the defiance of social norms of behavior, usually associated with punk rock musicians and fans. A Punker"
This in noway has to do with all "underground" though some may think true punk not the new emo going around. is underground, I shall agree on this point. They also have this
"Our organization's guiding principal is the open expression, through artistic means, specifically music, in defiance against not only the disease of breast cancer but also the financial burden put upon a "Punks" mother and family in its wake. " Yet again they claim "punk" in this message. now this is the major thing about the whole thing.
"Our Financial Objective is to raise money via Punk Rock Musical Events in Canada. Dates Will Be announced right here." We are in noway punk rock which makes us a minority and un-fair situation in the event since metal heads or "people" who would enjoy our music won't attend due to the "punk rally, Punk for pink" issue comes to mind. we can't get all our fans there now due to this change of events. So it's become more so we'd rather not do it because it's technically a waste of time for both of us because we "can't" sell tickets. We love helping charity but we're a extream metal band being asked to raise money for a "punk rally" and even if we lied people will still see the online link, flyer, tickets and ect. so they will loose interest and punks the majority of them are not fans of metal heads so even if we tried to sell to them we'd just get "lip".
The site still isn't working for myself and many others bands. People I've instructed to sign up so they can vote are having troubles, I still can't delete unwanted music, including a lot of other technical options I can't take advantages of like inviting locals with friend invites and personal messages due to it refusing to "co-operate" with me and what I want to do.
The moving to the Legion we aren't going to complain since it's still a free show inspite of the fact our band can't 100% fit on the stage Marc had to walk off it and play on the ground because we are a 5 piece band and the stage is like a tiny pie slice in a corner an inch high with carpet on it.
We've decided it's just best, to be fair on both parties we just don't attend so it won't waste anyone's time and there will be a few weeks to fill an open spot for a "punk band" that can attract the ticket sales supernova needs for breast cancer. It's nothing personal to supernova or the charity, we love helping out but it's that classic rule of the trade, if it's a metal show it's a metal show if it's a punk show it's a punk show. so if they want a lot of money raised then it should be "punk bands" that will attract the mass population of punks to this punk show.
I myself (Not speaking for others members here) feel alittle offended that after half a month of being invited to a "open" genre show it gets given a genre half way. "Punk" throws us into the minority corner. We wouldn't get votes and we can't sell tickets to metal heads. A punk show is for "punks" sorry, it's a personal belief. It has been given a genre at the snap of a finger, with nothing but an e-mail saying; "Great news, punks are taking over the show". i know that's NOT how it was worded but how it came across, but now that it's been given a genre, only bands of that specific genre should be invited. If that was it's name from the get-go we would have said no to this show and wouldn't have wasted anyone's time.
We deeply appreciate SUPERNOVA's time, and hope no time is wasted in the future.
